BIRGUNJ: A day after Maoist-affiliated workers attacked Himamedia, cadres of Youth Force (YF), the militant wing of the CPN-UML -- burnt down copies of local newspaper Ankush here Tuesday.

YF cadres led by the group´s district commander Ajaya Kuswaha seized copies of the newspaper on the charge of including the group´s name in a news report related to fake currency and burnt the newspaper in front of Ghantaghar at noon.

“We burnt the copies because our party’s name was included in the news,” said Kuswaha.

Publisher of the newspaper Bijaya Chauhan has condemned the incident. “They (Youth Force cadres) stormed into the newspaper’s office misbehaved with the staff and seized the papers,” said Chauhan.

The Parsa district chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has criticized Youth Force for attacking the media. “It is not good to burn newspapers,” FNJ Parsa President Shatrughan Pal said.
