KATHMANDU, Sept 30: A new aircraft of Yeti Airlines, a private sector airline, has started commercial flights from today. The sixth ATR 72-500 aircraft which was added to the airline’s fleet on September 5 started commercial flights from today.

Sudarshan Bartaula, a spokesperson for the airlines, said that the new aircraft carried out a flight from Tribhuvan International Airport to Biratnagar at 8:20 AM today after completing all necessary procedures and obtaining flight permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

The authority has given the call sign 9N-AMZ to the aircraft. The 70-seater aircraft was leased from an Australian company. Spokesperson Bartaula said that the aircraft with MSN number 986 had only flown 8,273 cycles and 10,291 hours.

According to the company, it is the latest in the 72-500 series of aircraft produced by ATR. The company produced only one more aircraft after this aircraft, stopped the production of that series and started the production of 72-600 series aircraft.

It is the latest and less frequented aircraft, compared to other aircraft flying on the trunk routes in Nepal. The lifespan of an aircraft is based on its cycle and flight hours. An ATR aircraft has more than 70,000 cycles. One flight is counted as one cycle.
