Winter tips from expert (with interview)

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Since few days, the normal life of people has crippled due to the biting cold climate. The denizens of Kathmandu are experiencing extreme cold as the mercury dipped down to zero on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Since few days, the normal life of people has crippled due to the biting cold climate. The denizens of Kathmandu are experiencing extreme cold as the mercury dipped down to zero on Sunday.


According to the meteorologists, the temperature throughout the country will further go down for next few days. So, how to protect yourself from the frostbitten cold?


Dr Aruna Uprety, public health expert, recommends drinking lots of liquid. Warm water, water with turmeric, milk, black tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, coffee and a small quantity of milk tea will be a good replacement for water during the season.

Dr Uprety suggests staying warm wearing woolen cloths, especially for children and old age people, and stresses on using warm caps. She advises to hurdle around the fire if there is available of wood logs. 


Oil massage with mustard oil, especially for children and old age people, would be very useful to reduce the effect of bitter cold, she says. 


She proposes to avoid the morning walk and recommends for the regular health check-up.
