LONDON, Jan 5: Chelsea midfielder Willian led the Associated Press Global Football 10 for the first time on Tuesday.

The Brazil international has been Chelsea's most consistent performer in the club's poor season, and scored an excellent goal from 25 yards in a rare win last weekend, 3-0 at Crystal Palace.

Dele Alli was second, after capping a good display with an impressive goal in Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Everton.

"Dele Alli is showing what an amazing player he is and had an impressive afternoon at Goodison Park," Aurelio Capaldi of RAI Sport in Italy said. "He scored a fantastic goal against Everton. Not only that, Alli proved yet again he's a box-to-box midfielder who can make things happen."

Sergio Aguero polled third for getting Manchester City's winner in the 2-1 comeback victory at Watford.

Wayne Rooney entered fourth after ending Manchester United's eight-game winless run with a flicked back-heeled goal in his side's 2-1 win against Swansea.

Mesut Ozil was fifth for his influential displays during the festive period for Arsenal.

Gareth Bale, Keko, Yaya Toure, Petr Cech and Islam Slimani rounded out the top 10 players of the week.

Arsenal led the team poll for beating Newcastle 1-0 and moving two points clear atop the English Premier League, following on from a 2-0 win against Bournemouth on Dec. 28.

"It was an important week for Arsenal, especially after the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Southampton on Boxing Day," Umaid Wasim of Dawn newspaper in Pakistan said. "And Arsene Wenger's men had the perfect response as back-to-back wins sent them to the top of the Premier League."

Atletico Madrid, the Spanish league leader, was runner-up after beating Levante 1-0 to capitalize on draws from title rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid.

"Big clubs suffered a Christmas hangover this weekend but Atletico Madrid took advantage to go top of La Liga," Mike McGrath of The Sun in England said.

City was third for its win at Watford, its first away victory in the Premier League since Sept. 12.

Eibar entered this week's poll fourth after winning 4-0 away to Real Betis, and Chelsea fifth for overcoming Palace at Selhurst Park.

Sporting Lisbon, West Ham, United, Valencia, and Tottenham rounded out the top 10 players of the week.
