The winner of the category will be decided on the basis of the players´ performances in the international and domestic arena throughout the year 2069 BS. The male, female and popular players of the year will be awarded with a Pulsar motorbike each.[break]
Cricketer Khadka has emerged as a strong contender for the award. Khadka led from the front claiming 12 wickets and scoring 89 runs as Nepal lifted the title of ICC World Cricket League Division 4. Under his captaincy the Nepali cricket team also won the ACC Trophy and Khadka was declared the man-of-the-series for his 207 runs and four wickets during the tournament.
Khadka also enjoyed success at the domestic level as he led Armed Police Force (APF) to the titles of One-day and T20 national tournaments. He remained unbeaten on 86 runs against Baitadi in the one-day tournament and scored a half-century in 26 balls in T20.
Khadka´s teammate Regmi was declared the man-of-the-series in Division 4. Regmi claimed 21 wickets during the tournament to become the highest wicket-taker for Nepal in a single tournament. Regmi also claimed 10 wickets each in ACC Trophy and ACC T20. He also took 41 wickets in domestic cricket to enter the record books as the highest wicket-taker in a season.
Athlete Tilakram Tharu represented Nepal in the London Olympics. Tharu competed in the 100m race and achieved his person best. The Armed Police Force (APF) athlete finished on top in all domestic events held during the year winning six gold medals and also set a national record in 200m during the Golden Sprint.
Footballer Bharat Khawas scored an international hat-trick -- the fourth by a Nepali player and the first on home ground -- during a group stage match of the AFC Challenge Cup against Northern Mariana Island at Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu. The Nepal Army Club forward scored 12 goals in the A division league and was adjudged the best player of the league.
