The EC made the decision after political parties complained that election results of the second round of the elections could be affected if the counting of votes of the first round of the elections are started immediately. "Indeed, we were for starting the counting of votes only after concluding both the rounds of the elections. And parties also agreed to the idea," said Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal adding, "So, ballot boxes will be collected after the first phase election is conducted and counting will begin once all elections are conducted."
In recent local elections, EC, which conducted the polls in three phases, had started the counting of votes immediately after the conclusion of each phase.
