But on Friday when the SLC results were published, light shone at the end of the tunnel for Jaya Narayan's family as he passed the exams in first division (66.2%).Speaking about his achievement, Jaya Narayan who wants to study English literature in college said, "I had aimed for first division and I have attained it. I am very happy and so is my family."
Jaya Narayan's father priding on his son's achievement said, "He lost his eyesight when he was an infant. But today he has brought me great happiness."
And it's not only Jaya Narayan's family, this time SLC has brought smile in the faces of many at Purwanchal Gyan Chachu Bidhyalaya at Dharan-15 as all the visually impaired students who sat for the examinations passed in first division. "Our son is very happy and we are happier than him," says Tikamaya Limbu, a proud parent of another first division holder Sujata Limbu who also says that she'll let her daughter study any subject of her choice in future.
Principal of the school Keshari Thapa, however, laments that had the students been able to take exams in Braille script, they would have achieved even better results. He said, "Ramesh, who was our school topper, always attained 85% plus marks in internal exams. But as he had to take the help of a scribe to write his papers, he could not attain distinction." She adds that because of this many visually impaired students are being affected.
Students from the school have been appearing in the SLC examination since 2012 and all the examinees, who have appeared in the SLC examinations from the school so far have passed with good scores. In 2012, of the 10 students who appeared in the examinations, nine passed in first division and 1 in second. In 2013, of the 12 examinees, 10 passed in first and two in second division.
