SURKHET, Feb 19: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun inspected Bheri-Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project here on Tuesday evening.
The vice president observed the work progress of under-construction dam and barrage of the national pride project at Chiple of Bheriganga municipality.

During the inspection, he said that the project should be developed as a model project. On the occasion, he also lauded the breakthrough of the tunnel and work progress as scheduled.
Project chief Sanjiv Baral apprised the vice president about the work progress adding that 40 per cent work has completed so far. According to Baral, the project is expected to be completed by 2023.
The project aims at diverting the waters of Bheri River to Babai River for irrigation purpose through a 12.2-kilometer tunnel. Likewise, 51 thousand hectares of arable land of Banke and Bardiya districts will be irrigated while 48 MW of electricity will also be generated.
Tunnel digging work had already completed by using a tunnel boring machine (TBM). China Overseas Engineering Group (COVEC) had completed the tunnel one year before the stipulated timeframe.
Raman-Guangdon JV which was awarded the contract for the construction of dam and powerhouse has set up camps at two places to build a dam in Chiple and powerhouse in Babai.
