"This is a diversion road prepared as temporary arrangement but all types of vehicles, even the heavy-loaded ones, can travel through the road," Tulasi Sitaula, director general of the Department of Road, told myrepublica.com. [break]
Light vehicles traveled through the newly-built section from Tuesday but the heavy-loaded vehicles were allowed only on Wednesday.
The diversion road is good enough until monsoon starts, said Sitaula. According to him, the road can work even during monsoon season if the water from the Koshi River does not flow onto the road section again.
The government built the diversion road. The responsibility of constructing the metalled road lies on India as per the Koshi Agreement. India is busy in preparing its design and other paper works, according to Sitaula.
The Koshi ravaged the section on the highway after the river breached its embankment at West Kusaha in Sunsari district on August 18 and diverted eastward.
