US defeat Kathmandu in practice

KATHMANDU, Feb 17: The US national cricket team defeated Nepal´s national champion Region number 3 Kathmandu in a practice match by 73 runs on Wednesday.



The US team is in Kathmandu to participate in the Pepsi World Cricket League Division 5 scheduled to kick off from Saturday. [break]



Electing to bat first, the US put up a massive total of 333 runs losing eight wickets in the limited 50 overs. Lennox Cush (92) topscored for the US. Likewise, Rashard Marshall scored 61 runs before being retired hurt while Orlando Baker added 56 runs for the team. Abhaya Rana took 3 wickets for Kathmandu while Rom Shrestha claimed 2 wickets.



In reply, Kathmandu could manage only 260 runs in the board in the limited 50 overs losing their seven wickets. Openers Paresh Lohani (39) and Subash Khakurel (50) started well with a 95-run stand.



However, four wickets fell in quick succession. Suman Uday (53) and Rom Shrestha (unbeaten 40) once again stood for a good partnership. However, their partnership could not take Kathmandu near the target. Imran Awan took 3 wickets for the US while Sudesh Dhaniram claimed 2 wickets.



US batsman Lennox was adjudged man-of-the-match.
