KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Condemning the suspicious murder of radio journalist Uma Singh, the US Embassy in Kathmandu on Wednesday urged the government to investigate the crime and prosecute the perpetrators.

“The murder of journalist Uma Singh on January 11 in Janakpur is deeply disturbing,” the embassy said in a statement. , “…it was an assault on a basic tenet of democracy – the rule of law.”
The embassy also said that the growing incidents of violence, many of which target women, underscore the necessity for the government to improve protection of basic human rights.
