TEHRATHUM, April 22: The unseasonable flooding has swept away the canals of micro hydro power projects here plunging some 550 households in Khamlalung and Samdu into darkness.

The flooding in the local Khungring river has also obstructed transportation along Samdu – Sakranti road stretch. The intense rainfall on Wednesday evening swept away a 100 – metre canal of the 22 – kilowatt Amalebenshi Micro Hydro Power Project, Project Chairman Gopi Dhungana said.

The flooding also swept away the canals of 17 – kilowatt Falamsanghu Micro Hydro Power Project and 21 – kilowatt Koya River Third Micro Hydro Power Project cutting off power supply to the villages.

The residents of Khamlalung and Samdu have been living under darkness for the past two days. The central transmission line is yet to reach the two villages and after power generation stalled at the hydro power projects, electricity supply has completely been severed.

A dozen mills in the villages have also stopped operating in absence of power supply. The flooding in the third week of April as inflicted the greatest loss since 2008, according to locals. RSS
