ITAHARI,July 7: CPN-UML mayoral candidate Dwarika Lal Chaudhari has emerged victorious in the race for the mayor of Itahari Sub-metropolitan City.
Chaudhari won the election with 22,689 votes against 19,985 votes for his nearest rival Nepali Congress(NC) mayoral candidate Rohit Kumar Prasai.

Likewise, UML deputy mayoral candidate Laxmi Gautam has won the election with 21, 842 votes, compared to 18, 352 votes for her nearest rival NC deputy mayoral candidate Bimala Dhakal.
Chaudhari has acceded to power third time at the local level. He was elected to the then Hasposa Village Development Committee(VDC) as VDC chief in 2049 BS and 2054 BS. Itahari Sub-metropolitan City was formed by combining three old rural administrative bodies including Hasposa VDC Chaudhari belongs to.
However, Gautam has acceded to power for the first time in her career history despite getting involved in politics for a long time.
