The meeting handed over the responsibility of nominating chiefs of some zonal or regional chiefs to the party´s standing committee due to differences in the central committee. [break]
The CC meet promoted Bharat Mohan Adhikari to the party´s Standing Committee (SC). He was defeated in the election for Vice Chairman in the party´s general convention held in Butwal in February. With his induction, the UML´s standing committee has become 12-member body.
Adhikari was promoted to the top body after his nomination as chief of the party´s finance, planning and research department. "The department he heads has to play important role in the party and he has to take vital decisions. Therefore, the Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal proposed his promotion," said CC member Yogesh Bhattarai. Adhikari is former standing committee member and served as chief of the same department.
The CC meeting nominated Khanal as chief of the party´s school department. He will also head the parliamentary board.
Under the new work division, Vice-Chairman Ashok Rai is chief of the party´s organization, General Secretary Pokharel is chief of the publicity department, and senior UML leader KP Oli is chief of the party´s foreign affairs department.
Likewise Bamdev Gautam is chief of agriculture and land reform, Pradip Nepal of natural resource management, Mukunda Neupane of industry-business and labor relation, and Rajendra Pandey is chief of state affairs department, said a UML leader.
Similarly Gokarna Bista is chief of local development and physical infrastructure department, Rakam Chemjong of federal affairs, Pradip Gyawali of inclusive and social security, Keshav Badal of cooperatives, Mahendra Pandey of education and human resource development, Krishna Gopal Shrestha of health population and environment and Agni Kharel of law and election department.
The CC meeting also selected five regional chiefs. Shankar Pokharel (Far-Western Development Region), Yuvraj Gyawali (Mid-West), Bishnu Poudel (Western region) and Gautam (Central region). The CC meeting handed over the responsibility of selecting chief of the Eastern region to the Standing Committee.
Similarly the party also nominated the 14 zonal chiefs. Urba Dutta Panta (Mahakali), Bhanubhakta Joshi (Seti), Dilli Mahat (Karnali), Devraj Bhar (Bheri), Prakash Jwala (Rapti), Khagraj Adhikari (Gandaki), Pashupati Chaulagain (Bagmati), Kashinath Adhikari (Narayani), Ram Chandra Jha (Janakpur), Naresh Kharel (Mechi) and Dharmanath Sah of Sagarmatha.
The meeting handed over the responsibility of nominating chiefs of Lumbini, Dhaulagiri and Koshi zones and Kathmandu valley to the SC.
The CC meet on Wednesday had decided to reduce the number of its central departments from 28 to 18.
