According to the SALMAAGS, the call for entries for the awards was officially launched on August 1. The award celebrates the media’s role in shaping perceptions towards gender, aiming for a fairer society. SALMAAGS is an initiative of Population First, a Mumbai-based social impact organization that has been working for over two decades to promote gender sensitivity in media in India.

Following a successful collaboration over the past several years, the initiative is once again being supported by the United Nations Population Fund. The award is a collaborative project of South Asian Women in Media, the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations, and the National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai.
