KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Two Nepali women journalists have been chosen to be felicitated with the South Asia edition of the Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2024 (SALMAAGS). Nepali journalists Binita Dahal and Kalpana Bhattarai were recognized as significant contributors across the seven South Asian nations in the media space covering gender issues. They will receive the award on October 9 at the Tata Theatre in Mumbai.

According to the SALMAAGS, the call for entries for the awards was officially launched on August 1. The award celebrates the media’s role in shaping perceptions towards gender, aiming for a fairer society. SALMAAGS is an initiative of Population First, a Mumbai-based social impact organization that has been working for over two decades to promote gender sensitivity in media in India.

Following a successful collaboration over the past several years, the initiative is once again being supported by the United Nations Population Fund. The award is a collaborative project of South Asian Women in Media, the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations, and the National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai.
