Two nabbed for defrauding people over jobs in Bosnia and Malaysia

Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly defrauding people by luring them with promises of attractive salaries in foreign employment opportunities in Bosnia and Malaysia.

KATHMANDU, June 17: Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly defrauding people by luring them with promises of attractive salaries in foreign employment opportunities in Bosnia and Malaysia.


The arrested are Dipendra Gurung, 26, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, originally from Dordi Rural Municipality-5, Lamjung; and Rupi Maya, 34, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15, originally from Barahathwa Municipality-1, Sarlahi.

According to the complaint filed by the victims, Dipendra took Rs 700,000 from six individuals promising jobs in Bosnia and then disappeared, while Rupi took Rs 557,000 from another six individuals promising employment in Malaysia and went out of contact.


Acting on the complaints, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku arrested Dipendra on Sunday from Kathmandu-16 and Rupi on Monday from Kathmandu-15. Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
