Two killed, 14 injured in wedding chariot accident

BARA, Jan 25: Two people were killed and 14 others were injured when a chariot carrying a bridegroom overturned at Adarsh Kotwal-3 Batara Tol on Monday night. According to Bara Police, the incident took place when the chariot used by Shri Ram Mahara, son of Laxman Mahara Chamar of Batra, overturned.

BARA, Jan 25: Two people were killed and 14 others were injured when a chariot carrying a bridegroom overturned at Adarsh Kotwal-3 Batara Tol on Monday night. According to Bara Police, the incident took place when the chariot used by Shri Ram Mahara, son of Laxman Mahara Chamar of Batra, overturned.


According to Bara Superintendent of Police Dilip Singh Deuba, Shaila Kumari Ram and Nilam Kumari Ram died on the spot when the chariot overturned after it lost its control while returning after worshiping the village deity Brahma Baba of Batara.


Before the chariot overturned, 14 people were injured when it hit the locals in the village, said Superintendent Deuba. He said that the injured were being treated at Kalaiya District Hospital and different other hospitals in Birgunj.

Similarly, according to ward chairperson of Adarsh Kotwal Rural Municipality-3, the deceased Shaila Kumari had come to Batara from Simraungadh Municipality-7 while Nilam Kumari was a resident of Batara.


Chairman Yadav said that the wedding of Ram, which was going to be held on Monday, was postponed.


Likewise, Nepali Congress (NC) Madhesh Province Vice President Chandra Shekhar Yadav has demanded financial assistance from the province and local level for those who were killed and injured in the incident.
