Two fishermen go missing in Rapti River in Chitwan

CHITWAN, Sept 7: Two fishermen have gone missing in the Rapti River while fishing in Dharampur Jamunaghat of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-27 in western Chitwan.

According to the Area Police Office, Parsadhap, the missing individuals are 43-year-old Sanjeeb Chaudhary from Bharatpur-25 and 45-year-old Suka Bahadur Pariyar from Bharatpur-27. Rohit Kumar Chaudhary, who accompanied them, managed to survive by swimming.

The search for the youths, who went missing on Friday afternoon at around 2 PM, has so far been unsuccessful. On Saturday morning, starting from 6 AM, a 15-member team of soldiers from the New Gorakh Battalion, deployed from the Chitwan National Park, began searching by boat. Along with the Army team, two elephants from the national park have also been deployed within the park area.

Local boatmen are also involved in search operations in the Meghauli area.

Only licensed individuals are permitted to fish in the Rapti River within the national park, and it has been reported that the missing persons did not hold licenses and had entered the river illegally.
