Suraj Chaudhari, 60, and Sudarshan Chaudhari, 29 of Sapahi-7, Juguwa were killed in the elephant attacked on Thursday at around 8 in night. [break]“We were patrolling in the village where two people were trampled to death by the elephant two days ago. But again two more people succumbed in the tusker attacks,” said Police Inspector Binod Kumar Yadav, at Kolhwi police post. “After the consecutive incidents of tusker attacks, the locals are frightened,” Inspector Yadav added.
“People were enjoying the warmth of fire in the village. The elephant entered the village suddenly and I shouted out to my fellow villagers to warn them of the danger. It was going toward the house of Suraj Chaudhari,” said a local Ramjohan Chaudhari.
According to the locals who witnessed the killing, Suraj was asleep in his home when the elephant started destroying his house. “Suraj tried to flee out from his home, but to no avail as the marauding elephant caught him by its trunk and threw him forcefully to the ground,” said witness Binod Saha.
According to the locals, the ravaging elephant destroyed nothing but only killed people. “The recently harvested paddy elsewhere has been untouched. It came as if only to kill people,” said Kalawati Devi.
