SURKHET, July 23: Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, underscored the need of tunnel transportation system for the development and prosperity of the province. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which is being used by the Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project, a national pride project, to dig tunnels through rocks, would also be utilized in other big projects, he assured.
“Six-kilometer of tunnel construction work of the project has been completed in eight months. We are now conducting feasibility studies on similar projects,” said CM Shahi.

According to him, construction of tunnels eases geographical difficulties, paving way for prosperity and development. He also shared plans to use the TBM in construction of short tunnel in Bhurigaun-Telpani road that connects Karnali Province with the tarai.
“We are preparing detailed project report to construct tunnel for Bhurigaun-Telapani road. The report would be prepared in the current fiscal year itself as we plan to begin the works in the next fiscal year,” added CM Shahi.
The minister further shared plans to develop tunnel for the Jamunaha-Surkhet-Hilsa road. “Only with ambitious plans, modern technology and utilization of dutiful human resources can we drive the province to prosperity. The provincial government is going forward with the same aim,” he added.
