TU officials announced the shutdown citing growing insecurity of staff of the country´s oldest university.
Locals of Kirtipur have been staging demonstrations at the university premises pressing for their various demands.
Speaking at a press conference organized at TU premises Monday, the TU Vice Chancellor Dr Madhya Kumar Sharma said that they cannot fulfill the demands laid out by Kirtipur residents. He added that teachers and students of the university were threatened by the locals many times.
However, Rajendra Shakya, a member of TU Victims’ Struggle Committee that is staging the demonstrations, blamed the TU authorities for the closure. He said the TU officials were exaggerating the threat from the locals.
