All six deceased, including the teashop owner, are from Kolikatantol. The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Karvir Khadka, 75-year-old Raj Bahadur Air, 50-year-old Sher Bahadur Parki, 60-year-old Hari Jora, 65-year-old Dhaule Dholi of Shreepur-4, and 60-year-old Saluwa Thapa of Shreepur-1. The six succumbed to death before they could be rescued.
Two persons sitting on the other side were able to escape while a child survived the accident. Police inspector Ganesh Bahadur Bam said they were able to rescue 5-year-old Amar Ail from under the truck. Those crushed under the truck were rescued by locals and the police team from Attariya.
The truck (Se 1 Kha 632) carrying flour for Karnali region was heading east from Attariya. Eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred due to drunk driving. They claimed that the driver and his help had consumed alcohol at Attariya.
Injured Umesh Joshi has been referred to India by Padama Hospital, Attariya, police said.
Truck driver Prem Bahadur Budhathoki of Shreepur-6 is absconding after the incident. According to police, truck owner Ramshekhar Yadav was also in the vehicle.
Locals have obstructed the highway to protest against the incident.
