Transparency International ranks Nepal 117 on corruption perception index

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: The 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released today by Transparency International has ranked Nepal as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the world by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The results are given on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).


Ranked at 117the position as per the index by Transparency International, Nepal received 33 points for corruption in 2021. The Himalayan country scored the same point and remained at the same position and as corrupt as it was in 2020.

According to the organization, Nepal has secured its position as a corrupt country once again as the country has shown no progress in terms of minimizing corruption. 


The report has ranked Denmark, Finland and New Zealand as the least corrupt country in 2021, scoring 88 points respectively. Likewise, South Sudan has been ranked as the most corrupt nation with 11 points. Among the South-east Asian countries, Bhutan is ranked as the least corrupt country, ranking at the 25th position with 68 points.
