KATHMANDU, Sept 5: One of the two power transformers (132/33 KV, 63 MVA) at the Dhalkebar substation encountered a problem on Tuesday evening, causing a disruption in power supply. With two transformers supplying a load of around 90 MVA, the issue has resulted in a 30 MVA load being cut off.

Areas such as Janakpurdham, Yadukuwa, Dhanushadham, Sakhuwa, Jaleshwar (Mahottari), Gaushala, Bardibas, and Bhiman (Sindhuli), which rely on the substation for electricity, have been affected by the outage.

According to Nepal Electricity Authority‘s Madhesh Regional Office, power is currently imported from Sursand, India, via a 33 KV transmission line to help regulate the supply while the transformer issue is resolved. Efforts are underway to clear trees along the right-of-way of the Sursand-Jaleshwar line, which is currently not operational. He expects the line to be restored by Friday.

According to officials, continuous rainfall is hampering efforts to access the transformer. If the fault can be identified, repairs may be completed in a day, but if a replacement transformer is required, it could take 10 to 15 days to resolve.
