Tourists visiting Upper Mustang increased

MYAGDI, May 11: The number of tourists arriving for upper Mustang visit has increased after the place was enlisted in one of the best tourism destinations of the world.



The world famous travel guide Lonely Planet has included Upper Mustang in the third position among world famous ten best tourism destinations for 2013.



The Lonely Planet stated that the Upper Mustang, a Nepali territory adjacent to Chinese border, as a place ´Last opportunity to see semi-forbidden kingdom´. The tourists´ arrival increased in the highland in Mustang district of late, stated Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).



The Lonely Planet is the world´s best selling guide book. The Lonely Planet publicized the Upper Mustang by keeping in priority and that the foreign visitors have been attracted towards this place, said Chief of ACAP, Jomsom, Santosh Sherchan.



He said an average of 60 foreigners visit Upper Mustang daily in this season for the first time. In the past, hardly 10-15 tourists used to visit the area.



A tourist needs to pay 500 US Dollars as for entry fee to visit the semi-forbidden highland.



Monasteries, houses, palaces and caves used in the form of houses are the attraction of the area. The area is considered good for studies and for carrying out researches on the ancient art and mountain culture.
