The number of tourists, coming to Nepal via air through the Tribhuvan International Airport, declined by 15. 9 per cent this January, according to the Board.[break]
This is the first time that such a decline has been recorded in the past three years.
The negative change is a result of the overall decline in the number of tourists coming to the country from neighbouring India, China and from Europe.
The number of tourists coming to Nepal this January was 25,330 in comparison to 42,031 in January last year.
Only tourist arrival from Pakistan has found to have increased this month by 5.8 per cent. Tourist arrival from neighbouring India recorded a decline by 26.1 per cent and a decline by 62.6 per cent and 42.6 per cent from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively. Overall, tourist arrival from Asia declined by 16.4 per cent, with the highest decline from China at 40.3 per cent.
However, tourists´ arrival from Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and South Korea increased in January this year by 16.6, 10.3, 4.3, 42.6 and 11.2 per cent respectively.
Also, the number of British tourists coming to Nepal increased by 6.6 per cent in the same period. Positive growth was recorded in the arrivals of tourists from Australia, New Zealand and the USA while negative growth was seen in tourist arrival from Germany, France, the Netherlands and from Canada.
