According to the figures released by Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, the number of visitor arrivals touched 62,712 during the month.[break]
A sustained growth of 21.9 percent was observed in arrivals from the South Asian countries during the first ten months in 2010 as compared to the same period last year, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) said in a statement Monday.
In October, the arrivals from the South Asia region grew by 13.7 percent due to impressive growth from Bangladesh (34.7 percent) and India (17.1 percent). However, statistics shows that arrivals from Pakistan and Sri Lanka declined by 39.2 percent and 36.8 percent respectively.
Tourists from other Asian countries, excluding South Asia, recorded an overall decline of 2.3 percent during the period. Almost all the markets recorded a drop with arrivals from China, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand declining by 8.7 percent, 8.9 percent, 24.5 percent and 22.4 percent respectively.
The country managed to attract 14.5 percent more tourists from Europe during the period. According to the statistics, total visitor arrivals from Europe touched 29,681 in October. Arrivals from Belgium increased by 29.6 percent, while the arrivals from Denmark and France grew by 56.7 percent and 18.8 percent respectively.
Similarly, the figures show increasing trend of visitors from the United States and Canada. Arrivals from those countries grew by 32 percent and 28.5 percent respectively.
NTB said October remained the strongest month so far for tourist arrivals in 2010 with a total of 62,712 tourists visiting the country.
The total number of tourists visiting the country in the first 10 months of 2010 has reached 364,115.
