Top leaders, whips of three big parties discuss making parliament effective

KATHMANDU, May 14: The discussions among the leaders of the parliamentary parties of the three big parties represented in the Federal Parliament and their chief whips have concluded. The discussion was called by the Prime Minister and held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar.

The consultation was focussed on making the ongoing parliament session effective and forming various parliamentary committees, CPN (Maoist Centre) chief whip Hitraj Pandey said. The meeting also discussed forming a parliamentary sub-committee to take the Truth and Reconciliation Bill to a conclusion at the earliest, on deciding on the leadership and representation of the parliamentary thematic committees on consensus basis and on constitution of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, among other topics.

"Many positive discussions were held today. Parliament's budget session is ongoing. Discussions were held on moving ahead in an amicable manner to make parliament effective," Chief Whip Pandey said.

According to him, the meeting also discussed the need for moving forward the Bill Related to the Truth and Reconciliation, as the parliamentary thematic committees are yet to be formed.

"Parliamentary Hearing Committee has also not been formed yet. We are one in taking ahead parliament's business in consensus and we will reach a conclusion soon," he added. 

Attending the meeting were the Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML  parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Pandey, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak and UML deputy leader Subash Chandra Nembang.
