BIRGUNJ: Police arrested Toofan Singh, the former military commander of armed Madhesi Mukti Tigers (MMT), on Sunday morning in Sunsari district. Another MMT member was also arrested along with Singh. They were arrested while receiving ´donations´ from a hotelier in the district at about 5 a.m., police said. Police confirmed the arrests only in the afternoon. "Toofan Singh has been arrested," a policeman at the district police office told myrepublica.com. "They are under investigation and further details will be provided later."
Singh is among the 51 prisoners who had fled the Siraha jail on August 14. Singh is among some of the notorious armed tarai group leaders perpetrating violence in the tarai. Madhesi Mukti Tigers, claimes that Singh is no longer with the group as he was sacked some time ago.
