Human-Tiger Coexistence Amidst Rising Tiger Population
“After finishing his shift at the hotel in the evenings, Bhaiya would always go and sit on the highway bridge near the village. The tiger must have attacked and dragged him away at that time,” Lama said. “The body of the deceased was found in the forest inside the park about 500 meters north of the East-West Highway.”
According to Lama, the tiger has eaten half of the body. Lama said that a tiger had come near the village all day on Sunday and killed two goats and a calf after entering the village only two days ago.
“There are only two pairs of tigers. They come near the village and roar. They were seen in the village three days ago. We have seen the tiger many times. The boys playing football have also seen it,” she said. “The tiger is terrorizing our village. We are scared.”
People’s representatives, police and locals have gathered at the site. Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality Chairman Lahuram Tharu and Vice Chairman Dhani Kumari Khatri are also reaching the spot where the incident took place.
