BUTWAL, April 3: Three Indian nationals involved in recent robberies outside Butwal branch of Everest Bank have been arrested.

Those arrested are Vivek Das, 42, from Gorakhpur and Santosh Das, 20, and Sumit Das, 19, from Gorakhpur, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Area Police Office Butwal Dan Bahadur Karki.

Police had stepped up vigilance at banks in Butwal after one Sundar Shrestha was robbed of Rs 53,000 from the Everest Bank last week.

The robbers had claimed that they came to Butwal in search of a lost relative. They, however, confessed their crime after they failed to produce train or bus tickets and Indian currency when demanded by the police to prove they had arrived on the very day.

“They only had Nepali currency notes though they claimed to have arrived Nepal that very day,” DSP Karki said.

Investigating officers said the trio used to throw dust in the eyes of people or divert attention by dropping currency notes before robbing them. The trio had looted Rs 300,000 from a milk counter of a cooperative dairy in Butwal 10 days ago, Rs 300,000 from Tek Bahadur GC of Devkota Chowk in Bhairahawa last Monday and Rs 115,000 from Rizwan Khan, an employee of NDK Brick Factory.

Police suspect the gang may have links with bigger criminal groups.
