Three family members swept away by Koshi

DHARAN, May 9: Three people of the same family have gone missing in Saptakoshi River here in Sunsari district since Thursday noon.



Ramesh Baskota, 40, and Gopal Baskota, 35, of Jhapa, Shantinagar and Gyan Nath Baskota, 55, of Kakadbhitta went missing from Barahkshetra who had come there for shraddha, a Hindu yearly ritual of offering food to deceased parents, on the Mother’s Day.[break]



According to police, first Gyannath was swept away by the river, while the other two got washed away while trying to save Gyannath at around 12 pm.



Along with the Baskota trio, as many as 21 persons were at the site. Among the trio, Ramesh and Gopal have been identified as brothers while Gyannath has been identified as their uncle.



Police said that a search operation is underway.
