SINDHUPALCHOK, Sept 24: Three people, including a school girl, have died apparently of viral fever in two remote villages of Sindhupalchowk district.

Sunmaya Tamang, 65, of Hagam VDC-1, Dhan Bahadur Shrestha, 65, of Hagam VDC-3, and Anjali Neupane, 8, of Phulpingkot VDC-3 in Sindhupalchowk district have died in the last two weeks after suffering intense fever for several days, say the locals. [break]Anjali was a third-grader at Laxmi Devi Secondary School, Phulpingkot.

Shree Dhar Neupane, a local resident of Phupingkot VDC, told Republica on the phone that many people have fallen sick due to viral fever in his neighborhood.

“There are sick people in every household,” said Neupane. “People have grown wary that they too might catch viral fever.”

The health post at Phulpingkot and Jalbire Primary Health Care Center have been flooded by sick people, according to Neupane. Padam Bhandari, a teacher in Phulpingkot VDC, said most of his students have already stopped attending classes due to the fear of fever.

The District Public Health Office (DPHO) of Sindhupalchowk has sent a team of health workers to provide treatment to sick people.
