Feb 23, 1972- Handing over of hijacked plane



Lufthansa Flight 649 was hijacked by a Palestinian group for two days- February 22 and 23- until the West German government paid a ransom of 5 million US dollars to free the plane and male passengers from an airstrip in Yemen. Female passengers and children were already let out before the hijackers directed the plane to South Yemen.

Feb 26, 2014- Turtles Found Dead


More than 900 olive ridley turtles were found dead along the shores of the Indian Ocean in Nellore in South India. The turtles died of suffocation after being trapped in fishnets. This was the first mass death of this endangered species in over 10 years.


Feb 28, 1953- Discovery of DNA Double Helix


DNA was identified as a double helix structure by James D. Watson and Francis H.C. Crick at the laboratory of Cambridge University.  This discovery helped the scientific world to explore the transfer of genetic materials from one generation to another.
