KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has stressed the need for making the country self-reliant by developing the agricultural sector.
Stating that development and progress of the country is possible only by making the relationship of farmers, land, climate and water resources of Nepal systematic, Sharma also clarified that there is no alternative to moving forward by mobilizing the agriculture sector.
Groundwater for food security
Speaking at the 14th Annual General Meeting of the Nepal Agricultural Cooperative Central Federation Ltd held in Kathmandu on Friday, he pointed out the need for special investment by the government for building the country's economy by organizing and mobilizing the agriculture sector.
Finance Minister Sharma also urged the cooperatives to increase investment in the development of the agricultural sector by organizing the farmers.
Acknowledging that the agriculture sector and farmers have been neglected by the state, Finance Minister Sharma also expressed his commitment to set up agro-based enterprises by mobilizing them. He also expressed the belief that cooperatives would play an important role in the campaign to build national capital by turning the agricultural sector into an enterprise.
