SURKHET, Nov 1:  The term of three lawmakers of the then CPN-UML, who became ministers after saving the government of Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi by crossing the floor , has come to an end.

As per the provisions of the constitution, the process of forming a new government has started in Karnali province. All the three ministers who made it to the power by fluting party’s whip, are now affiliated to the CPN (Unified Socialist).

After the UML filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Shahi in the Province Assembly, he had taken a vote of confidence on April 16. The day before the vote of confidence, the Nepali Congress, the then UML's Madhav Kumar Nepal faction and the CPN (Maoist Center) had reached an 11-point agreement. According to the committee, four lawmakers from the then Nepal faction voted in favor of Chief Minister Shahi to save the government.

Chief Minister Shahi appointed Amar Bahadur Thapa as the Minister of Physical Infrastructure, Nanda Singh Budha as the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment and Kurmaraj Shahi as the Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives a few days after his reelection as the chief minister. After the UML took action against four lawmakers, who crossed the floor, they were re-appointed as non-members of parliament on April 29.

"We were appointed as per the 11-point written agreement reached between the CPN (Maoist Center), Nepali Congress and UML's Madhav Kumar Nepal faction at that time," said Minister for Physical Infrastructure Thapa.
