KATHMANDU, April 19: Tension ran high at the UCPN (Maoist)´s headquarters in Peris Danda Thursday after a clash broke out between two groups of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN)-disqualified ex-PLA combatants.

The scuffle has prompted police to intervene, with more than 40 police personnel now deployed at the clash site, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Dhiraj Pratap Singh said. [break]

The two groups--one led by Sagar Limbu and the other by Lenin Bista--had a minor fight on Wednesday as well.

The ex-PLA fighters have been staging sit-in at the party headquarters since last week, demanding a financial package for them on par with their fellow fighters choosing voluntary retirement.

There were some 30 to 35 police personnel deployed at the site since the ex-combatants began their protest. The strength of police personnel has been increased over security concerns after today´s fighting, DSP Singh said.
