ARGHAKHANCHI, Mar 23: A campaign, 'Ten Houses, One Pond', has been started in Arghakhanchi district in a bid to recharge the drying water sources.

The local youths have joined hands in this campaign out of concern over the water springs drying up with the ancient ponds in the villages vanishing due to human encroachment which has resulted in acute shortage of water in many settlements in the district, especially during the dry months.

Krishna Prasad Bhusal, a youth entrepreneur who is actively involved in this campaign, said that they have started the campaign to construct the ponds for nature conservation which would also recharge the groundwater.

"The campaign has been started to reduce the risk to human life due to the increasing destruction of the ponds in course of constructing infrastructures like schools, roads and resting places, said Station Manager of Naya FM, Hari Prasad Bhusal.

There is a target of constructing 500 ponds in various places of the district under the campaign. A dozen ponds have been already constructed in a week's time since the campaign was started. RSS
