Teachers day being observed today

KATHMANDU, July 31: Guru poornima or teachers' day is being observed across the country on Friday, with people paying respects to their teachers and guides for showing light through knowledge.

Especially students shower their teachers with garlands and gifts in recognition of their contribution to their personal and educational well-being.


As per Hindu scriptures, Guru poornima has been observed since ancient times marking the birth anniversary of Ved Vyas, the creator of epics like Veda, Mahabharat and Srimad Bhagwat.

The day is also marked as the day when lord Gautam Buddha gave his first preaching of knowledge. RSS
