UDAYAPUR, July 30: Police have arrested a teacher in Udayapur on a rape charge. The arrested teacher has been accused of raping a 24-year-old local woman.
The arrested has been identified as Gajendra Giri, a teacher at Siddheshwar Secondary School in Musaharniya, located in Chaudandigadhi Municipality–9.
Why teachers are important
Giri is accused of taking the woman to a hotel in Chaudandigadhi Municipality–7, Satdhare and raping her. Following a complaint filed by the woman, the Area Police Office (APO) in Beltar took him into custody and initiated an investigation.
According to Inspector Babin Rai, chief of the APO, the woman stated in her complaint that Giri had called her to the hotel on July 1 and raped her. The victim also alleged that Giri threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.
Police further stated that the victim reported repeated instances of verbal abuse and humiliation by Giri, both in person and over the phone, even after the incident.
Giri, who was arrested last Saturday, is currently being held in custody at the APO. Inspector Rai said the District Court has granted a seven-day extension for further judicial remand.
