Tanahun faces over Rs 10 million loss due to monsoon-induced havoc

TANAHUN, Oct 3: The recent floods and landslides triggered by persistent rain have caused damage worth Rs 10 million to the agricultural sector in Tanahun. The disasters impacted maize, black gram, beans, millet, cauliflower, and rice crops in Devghat, Anbu Khaireni, Bandipur and Rishing Rural Municipality, resulting in losses worth Rs 10.88 million, as reported by the Agriculture Knowledge Center.


Heavy rainfall-triggered floods and landslides damaged crops on 67 hectares of land. In Devghat, maize, beans, and black gram crops were damaged, while winter maize, rice, and millet were affected in Anbu Khaireni, and rice crops suffered damage in Bandipur.

In Devghat Rural Municipality Wards 2, 3, and 5, floods destroyed maize, beans, black gram, millet, and cauliflower, causing losses of Rs 50,000. The landslide also damaged bean seeds, leading to an additional loss of Rs 100,000. Furthermore, floods caused damage to rice fields, resulting in a loss of Rs 240,000, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Center.


Floods in Aabu Khaireni damaged crops including rice fields, maize, rice, and vegetables, resulting in losses of Rs 8.67 million.


Similarly, landslides destroyed rice crops in Bandipur, causing losses of Rs 1.59 million, while Rishing Rural Municipality reported damage worth Rs 60,000 to millet crops. Farmers lost another Rs 96,000 as their orange trees were uprooted by the floods and landslides.
