The government has declared a national holiday to mark the festival, arguably the greatest festival of the Gurung community. The Gurungs held cultural programs on the eve of the festival in many parts of the country on Monday. Many such programs are slated to be performed on Tuesday as well. According to Gurung calendar, Poush 15 (December 30 this year) marks the beginning of another year.
