Talks are underway with Biplab-led party to address their demands: Home Minister Khand

KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, who is also looking after responsibility of the Prime Minister, has said talks are still underway with the Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplab'.

KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, who is also looking after responsibility of the Prime Minister, has said talks are still underway with the Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplab'.


Talking to a group of journalist at Home Ministry on Saturday, Minister Khand said that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Law Minister Dilendra Prasad Badu have also held talks with the top leaders of Chanda-led party to meet their demands. The Chanda-led party has also separately held discussions with the leaders of other ruling political parties and major opposition party.

Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma 'Prakanda' has been assigned as chief negotiator from Biplab side. Minister Khand reiterated that government is committed to ensuring durable peace in the country by concluding peace process by holding continuous dialogue and discussion with all political parties.


Home Minister Khand also informed that necessary homework is being made to withdraw cases filed against leaders/cadres of Chanda-led party and release the detainees in a lawful manner. The homework is being made jointly by the Office of Attorney General, Home Ministry and Law Ministry to identify the cases and condition of the detainees.


Minister Khand said since the same person has been filed multiple cases their discussion is zeroing in on how it could be sorted out while the number of cases is more than the number of inmates. He further informed that government is committed to implementing the three-point agreement the former government had reached with the Chanda-led party. "Government wants peace in the country. All parties should join the national politics and we need to move ahead as per constitution for this. Dialogue and discussion are its parts," he added. (RSS)
