Supreme Court issues stay order on impeachment of CJ Karki

KATHMANDU, May 5: Supreme Court of Nepal on Friday issued a stay order on the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

KATHMANDU, May 5: Supreme Court of Nepal on Friday issued a stay order on the impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki.


A single bench of Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana ordered the parliament not to proceed forward the impeachment motion filed against CJ Karki in the parliament.


The court also paved the way for CJ Karki, who was suspended following the impeachment motion, to resume her duty.

The Legislature-Parliament meeting was adjourned till Sunday 1 pm after the CPN-UML lawmakers strongly objected to the impeachment motion today.


Speaker Onsari Gharti had called a  House meeting at 1 pm to discuss the impeachment motion registered against Karki.


As many as 249 lawmakers from Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist  Center) had field an impeachment motion against CJ Karki, accusing her of breaching jurisdiction of the Executive while giving verdict on IGP-appointment case on April 30.
