Supreme Court clears mayor from murder

RAUTAHAT, Dec 29: Siya Ram Kushwaha, mayor of Katariya municipality, Rautahat was welcomed by his community after he was given a clean chit from the Supreme Court.

Following the Supreme Court's decision, he chartered a helicopter and landed at Janata Secondary School's premise where he was welcomed with garlands.  

Kushwaha was convicted of murdering chairman and founder of Hindu Yuva Sangh, Kashinath Tiwari. Following the order issued by Janakpur High Court, Kushwaha was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on May 2018 for the murder of Tiwari. The Janakpur High Court had directed District Police Office, Gaur to arrest Kushwaha.

On March 12, a temporary joint bench of Janakpur High Court judges Narayan Prasad Shrestha and Lekhnath Ghimire had sentenced  Kushwaha for 20 years in prison after finding him guilty in the murder of Tiwari.
