Suicide note found after woman self-immolates in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: A woman who set herself on fire near the Bagmati River in Kathmandu on Saturday left behind a suicide note. The incident took place near Kiratchowk, Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-8.


Kamala Acharya, 38, from Chitwan, arrived at the site on a scooter (Ba 35 Pa 5818) around noon. She poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze in an open area by the riverbank.

The suicide note, recovered by the Police Circle, New Baneshwor, indicated that Acharya took her own life due to guilt over the pain she believed she had caused her family. "I don’t want to cause anyone any pain. May my husband and sons live happily," the note read.


The deceased woman has two sons, aged 13 and 3. She was taken to Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital after the incident, but died at 5:45 am on Sunday. The body will be handed over to the relatives after a postmortem.
