The students were seen carrying banners of both Private and Boarding School´s Organization Nepal (PABSON) and National Private Boarding School´s Organization Nepal (NPABSON). The students were also seen carrying clubs. However, the presence of teachers in the demonstration was negligible. [break]
The protest march had started from Pidari Chowk and converged into a corner meet at Janaki Temple premise after passing through Mills Area, Bhanu Chowk, Shiva Chowk and Janak Chowk.
ISTU has organized the protest program demanding implementation of the agreement reached with the local administration regarding effective monitoring of the private schools. It has also demanded action against private schools operating without registration and running higher level classes without permission.
Besides, ISTU has demanded amendment to discriminatory provisions in the higher education policy, scholarship to private school students and removal of 1 percent education tax imposed on the private schools.
According to ISTU district chairman Brajakishor Yadav, they have also demanded action against private schools running without registration as per the report prepared by the joint monitoring committee.
