KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The Supreme Court today has decided to continue the stay order in the name of the government to not implement the cabinet decision to promote DIG of Nepal Police Jaya Bahadur Chand to the post of Inspector General of Police until Wednesday. The order was first issued on February 12.

A joint bench of Justice duo Ishwari Prasad Khatiwada and Hari Krishna Karki today issued the new order, said deputy spokesperson at the apex court Bishwaraj Poudel.

He further shared that the stay order will continue until Wednesday as the office of the attorney general was not notified regarding the additional writ related to it.

A writ petition was filed on Friday by advocate Kapil Dev Dhakal seeking an order to stop the appointment of Chand as the next IGP. The cabinet however decided to promote Chand as the IGP on Sunday. In response, advocate Dhakal filed an additional writ before the bench not to let the Cabinet decision to come in effect before its final hearing.

Another aspirant to the post, DIG Nawaraj Silwal had also filed a writ petition at the apex court, which also led to continuation of the stay order. RSS
