KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has asked the government media not to sing the praises of the government. Addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of The Rising Nepal on Friday, Minister Karki said that the state-owned media should not only sing the praises of the government. Minister Karki asked the government media to convey truth, facts and fair news.

He said that the newspaper should be established as a reliable newspaper for news and not just for contract advertisements. Minister Karki said that the government has paid attention to press freedom and that there are discrepancies in the name of press freedom and it is necessary to be aware of that.


Emphasizing that Nepal should be recognized in South Asia as a country that fully utilizes the freedom of press and freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution, Minister Karki said that Nepal should be known in South Asia for independent journalism. He mentioned that the people want the development and prosperity of the country and said that it is necessary to move forward with the commitment to fulfill the people's wishes.
