Byer, who is based in Japan, arrived in Nepal on a five-day visit under special initiation of Roots Fashion Private Limited, authorized dealer of Adidas in Nepal.

At the Saturday´s coaching clinic, he enlightened young Nepali coaches on theoretical and practical aspects of football training. Altogether 42 coaches from different clubs and schools, including females, participated in the coaching class.
The 51-year old American has been running youth development academy in Japan since the last 25 years. Byre, the 1997 winner of Adidas Golden Boot Development Award, is also the author of three books on football. Byer is also presenter of Tom´s Television Corner, a popular football program which aims to teach football through television.
Byer will reach Dharan on Monday to share his knowledge on coaching with young coaches there.
Lama wins gold
KATHMANDU: Sanu Lama on Saturday clinched gold in the First Citizen Bank Veterans Tennis Tournament in above 35 years singles category.
In the match played at Dashrath Stadium Tennis Court, Lama overcame Sukaman Tamang 6-2, 6-3 and bagged Rs 10,000. Tamang received Rs 5,000. In the doubles of the same age group, Raju Chhetri and Rajesh Chhetri´s pair defeated Chandra Shahi and Sovit Man Shrestha 6-3, 6-1 for gold.
In above 45 years, Krishna Raj Ghale edged past Subarna Dhakwa 7-5, 7-5 to claim gold. In the doubles of the same age group, Manoj Rana and Sovit Man Shrestha´s pair thumped Krishna Raj Ghale and Subarna Dhakwa´s pair 6-1, 6-2.
In above 55 years doubles, the pair of Gyanendra Tamrakar and Gautam Lal Pradhan won gold defeating the pair of Dr Indra Jeet Rai and Ratna Gurung 6-4, 6-2.
Karate team wins gold in Singapore
KATHMANDU: Nepali karate team clinched one gold, four silvers and a bronze during the recently concluded Singapore Open International Karate Championship, according to National Sports Council (NSC). The NSC informed on Saturday that Ganga Devi Adhikari, gold medalist of the 11th South Asian Games (SAG), secured the only gold for the Nepali team in Singapore in the women´s above 65 kg weight category.
Meanwhile, 11th SAG silver medalist Binod Maharjan clinched silver in the men´s above 60kg category while other Nepali players to win silver were Mukunda Maharjan (men´s above 69 kg), Digamber Pant (men´s above 84 kg) and Roji Nagarkoti (women´s above 55kg). 11th SAG gold medalist Sunil Lama won bronze in the men´s above 55 kg while Parsu Ram Bastola finished third in single kata.
Rupandehi wins team c´ship title
KATHMANDU: Rupandehi has lifted the team championship trophy of First NeCOS Junior National Taekwondo Championship on Saturday. Rupandehi won five gold, two silvers and a bronze medal to lift the team championship. Lalitpur finished second with four gold and three bronze medals. Bara finished third with two gold, silver and three bronze medals. Bhim Pariyar of Khotang and Karuna Thapa of Bijeshori were awarded the best players. In a three day tournament altogether 300 players from 26 districts had competed for 15 gold medals.
NASA registers victory
KATHMANDU: NASA, Little Angle´s College of Management (LACM) and Golden Gate College on Saturday registered win in Seventh KCM Basketball Bash in men´s category. In the match played at the court of Kathmandu College of Management, NASA thrashed K and K 75-20 with 21 points from Robin Khatri. LACH registered narrow margin 22-21 win over Kathmandu University with 10 points from Nameesh Shrestha. Bikram Dangol and Minesh Maharjan´s 12 points each guided Golden Gate for a 72-22 win over Thames. In women´s section, Maya Shyangten´s 19 pointes helped Golden Gate for clinch a 51-13 win over Kathmandu University.
Female boxers to try luck for Olympics
KATHMANDU: After male boxers´ dream of playing Olympics received a setback, two female players will contest in the AIBA World Boxing Championship that also serves as qualifiers for London Olympics.
According Rajiv Shrestha, president of one among the two boxing associations in existence, Saraswoti Rana Magar and Dina Gurung will compete in the championship to be held in China from May 9 to 20. Rana Magar will compete in 60 kg category and Gurung will contest in 75 kg category.
Gurung is Nepali citizen residing in London with her family. According to boxing chief coach Prachanda Shrarm, Gurung was given the opportunity to contest in 75 kg category as there is no 75 kg weight category in female´s section in Nepal. "Gurung is practicing in England and she will directly arrive in China from there in her own expenses," Sharma said.
Guangzhou Asiad bronze medalist Deepak Maharjan and Sudesh Manandhar competed in the Olympics qualifiers earlier but they were unsuccessful to qualify.
